Fear

More people fear flying than driving, even though flying is statistically safer. Our fears are often irrational. A person who is afraid to fly by plane will often happily drive to the airport, even though the probability of being injured in a road accident is much higher than that of being injured whilst traveling by plane.

We all have things that we fear. Some of us may fear speaking in public and other may fear heights.

Some of our fears are serious, such as a fear of death. Other fears are irrational and inconsequential, such as a fear of certain animals.

Fears can help us and they can also hold us back. They can prevent us from taking irrational risks or they can prevent us from experiencing new things.

Take some time to evaluate your fears. Identify which fears are rational and protect you. Which fears are irrational and hold you back?

Once you have identified the irrational fears that are holding you back, begin to question those fears.

What have they stopped you from doing in the past? What are they stopping you from doing now? What will they prevent you from doing in the future? Are those fears justifiable? Will what you fear really happen?

Our fears are chains that hold us back from living how we want to. Many people spend years freeing themselves from their fears. Why not begin to get rid of your fears now?

Our fears ensure that we look at the worst case scenario and, more importantly, make it seem real and likely to happen. The truth is that most fears are false lived, whilst some genuinely do protect us. To be able to differentiate and to use the power of fear to your advantage is a great challenge that only few master.
