Beat Your Conditioning
Submitted by editor on Mon, 03/03/2008 - 06:52.
How many of your own thoughts, beliefs and values are actually your own?The answer, for most people, is very few. This is because most of our thoughts, beliefs and values are a result of our religious, social, family and communal background and, in many ways, the values of our heroes. As a result of this, whenever we are faced with something that is different to our conditioning, we do one of two things. We either try to disprove it or we try to ignore it. As we enter a new week, try to make a conscious effort to beat your conditioning. When you are faced with something that goes against your conditioning, do not ignore or try and disprove it. In stead, try to remember what Rumi once advised us to do. He said that we should sell our cleverness and purchase curiousity and bewilderment in stead. Therefore, make it a goal for this week that whenever you experience something that goes against your conditioning, you will become curious. Try and understand the reasoning behind the conditioning of other people. At the end of it, you will not only have a greater understanding of how other people have been conditioned. You will better understand how you, yourself, have been conditioned too. Bookmark this post with: [ What's This? ] |
