An 11-Year Old Activist
Submitted by editor on Fri, 02/01/2008 - 07:48.
Jack Davis is a remarkable young man from Florida. He lives by the philosophy that "If you think there's a problem in the world, you don't wait for other people to fix it. You have to try to fix it yourself." At the tender age of 11 years old, he is doing just that. Jack was surprised to see why so much food was being thrown out at restaurants when a lot of it could be given to homeless people. After doing some research, Jack realized that if someone ate that food and got ill, they could be sued and the restaurants did not want to take that risk. Therefore, Jack spoke to his parents about this and suggested that there should be a law preventing legal action in this case. By doing this, restaurants would be protected if someone got ill eating that food and would therefore not be afraid to give this food to homeless people. Jack, with the help of his parents, composed an email to the senator outlining his idea. When Senator Nan Rich read Jack's idea, he loved it and was very encouraged that an 11-year old was doing something like this. Jack's idea looks certain to become law, ensuring that there is a win-win situation for all. Bookmark this post with: [ What's This? ] |
