Victim Society

Shows like Jerry Springer encourage a victim society. We live in a society where being has a victim has become the latest trend.

To see evidence of this, simply look at the television schedule and see how many programs there are that are similar to Jerry Springer, in which people compete to tell everyone how bad their lives are.

Unfortunately, this victim culture is spreading beyond our televisions and into our lives. Politicians, marketers and celebrities are seeing this as a way to win votes, influence and business. Tony Blair, for example, once announced how he had to sleep on the streets of London for one night when he was trying to get a record contract with his band when he was young. We hear similar stories daily about how celebrities are struggling to lose that extra pound of fat etc.

By seeing that successful people are victims, we have conditioned ourselves to believe that it is acceptable and, in some ways, cool to be a victim. As a result, we spend more and more time complaining to others about how difficult our life is to our friends and family.

More importantly, we spend more and more time convincing ourselves that we have more problems than, in reality, we do have.

Make it a habit to try and reduce the amount of victim shows that you watch. In stead, count all of the blessings and the success that you have. By doing this, you will be amazed by how quickly some of the problems that you have conditioned yourself to believe are true, will disappear.
