Plan to be Surprised

Dan in Real Life teaches us to plan to be surprised. In the movie Dan in Real Life, the lead character gives the following advice:

“Instead of telling our young people to plan ahead, we should tell them to plan to be surprised.”

We are often told by our parents, teachers and managers to plan ahead and schedule our time.

Although this has its advantage, it can often cause us stress and frustration when things do not go as planned.

This is because we need to take time out to sort this out and, ultimately, will need to sacrifice some of our objectives in order to do this.

Today, try to use a slightly different approach. Plan to be surprised. Schedule some time to deal with something unexpected. This way, you will be able to deal with it more effectively and have less stress.
