Day of Light

Rio celebrated a Day of Light on the 9th of March 2008On the 9th of March, Brazil celebrated a 'Day of Light.'

Created after a conversation between a group of dj's, video makers, advertisers and journalists, the Day of Light was created as a day in which people celebrated positivity.

One of the key objectives of the Day of Light was to encourage people to only buy newspapers or magazines which had at least one piece of good news on it.

Project Leader, Gabio K. Guimaraes, summarised the objective of the Day of Light. “Bad things do happen, and they do have to be brought to people’s attention, but there is also good news, which can inspire people and generate positive initiatives. We intend to make people aware of the fact that good news attracts good things and to propose more balance to the media."

Guimaraes also argues that many people stop watching the news and are ill-informed of global events simply because they do not want to be bombarded with negative news. By calling on the media to readdress the balance between the positive and negative news that it shows, one of the long term objectives of the Day of Light is to ultimately lead more people to be informed of what is happening in the world.
